How do you hit defensive and offensive shots with the backhand slice? What kind of footwork is necessary for stability and good balance? What drills can you do to learn this? Today, we are going to analyse ATTACKING and DEFENDING with the BACKHAND SLICE in tennis. Javi will explain how sliding is used in the backhand slice on clay courts to gain stability and control when put under pressure defending the ball from behind the baseline, and also when approaching the net for an aggressive shot or to return a drop shot. He will explain when to use a backhand slice in these situations, and will show you some useful drills that you can use to learn to position your feet correctly and perform these shots to your advantage. After watching this video you will know how to slide correctly on clay courts, and how to apply this footwork when hitting a backhand slice, in order to return a difficult ball from behind the baseline or when approaching the net to attack or reach a drop shot. In this video you will see the following chapters: 00:00 Introduction 02:03 Section One ➡️ Learning to slide into the slice backhand In this section, we focus on learning the correct sliding technique whilst moving to hit a backhand slice, which we will apply to later drills. It's important to know how to keep your body balanced during a slide to avoid losing control or falling and causing injury. 03:17 Exercise🎾 1: Learn to slide with the racket ready at the back 03:51 Exercise🎾 2: Slide with your right (dominant) foot and follow with the left (non-dominant) 04:04 Exercise🎾 3: Slide and execute the slice backhand motion 04:33 Exercise🎾 4: Slide and hit hand-fed balls with a slice backhand 05:20 Exercise🎾 5: Slide into the ball, hit and recover to the middle 06:08 Section Two ➡️ Using the slice backhand as a defensive shot For defensive shots, we're positioned behind the baseline, running towards the ball quickly. This means good footwork is essential in order to maintain control over the ball and not give the advantage to your opponent with clumsy or weak defence. Javi shares some tips for good defence with the backhand slice. 06:50 Exercise🎾 6: Hit defensive balls with slice backhand behind the baseline 07:55 Exercise🎾 7: Practice recovering your position with a crossover step 08:31 Section Three ➡️ Using the slice backhand to attack short balls Here, Javi explains the two types of footwork that are used for hitting a backhand slice in an attacking approach shot. Which one you choose will depend on the type of shot you want or need to hit. As usual, Javi shows the player some simple, progressive drills that they can use to better understand and greatly improve this aspect of their game. 10:15 Exercise🎾 8: Practice the crossover step after slice backhand motion 10:35 Exercise🎾 9: Hit hand-fed balls and take a crossover step forward 11:19 Exercise🎾 10: Without sliding, hit a slice backhand and approach the net 11:58 Exercise🎾 11: Sliding into the ball, hit a slice backhand and approach the net 11:58 Exercise🎾 12: Practice a crossover step behind the right (dominant) foot 13:40 Summary The main takeaways from this tennis lesson for intermediate players are: 👉 Slide into the ball with your dominant foot if you're hitting a backhand slice on a clay court. 👉 Put your weight towards the heel of your sliding foot in order to stay balanced. 👉 Spreading your arms after a backhand slice will help you hit a deeper, lower and more effective shot. 👉 Take an extra step forward after a backhand slice in mid-court to create momentum and propel you towards the net. 👉 Use a backhand slice to take control over a ball that lands short in your court. ——————— Playlists: 🎾 Forehand stroke technique ➤ https://bit.ly/2HP2C3l 🎾 Two-handed backhand technique ➤ https://bit.ly/3kP4FTQ 🎾 One-handed backhand technique ➤ https://bit.ly/3eb3AmI 🏃🏼♀️ Tennis footwork ➤ https://bit.ly/3jZvUtl 🧿 Fitness trainings on BOSU Ball ➤ https://bit.ly/2TJ241z 🥵 TABATA fitness workouts ➤ https://bit.ly/2IGzNXz 😷 Tennis in lockdown ➤ https://bit.ly/3mYOvaQ ——————— Thanks for watching.
