Back in late 2020, I spent a couple of days up in Auckland. During that trip, I only managed to scrounge together a short video of one of the recycling trucks working through some CBD work and missed out altogether on any red-lid action. Fast forward to the week just gone and I've been back up in Auckland, this time intent on capturing some footage of the various contractors and trucks which are run in the supercity. As luck would have it, I had the chance to spend a couple of days out filming, which saw me travel further around Auckland than I ever had before in search of waste collection equipment. Given the current Auckland Council is made up of a collection of seven former territories, their waste collection system is far from streamlined. As a result of this, there are multiple contractors each holding contracts which expire at different times and consist of different collection methods. The former Auckland City (where this video was filmed) utilizes rates-funded wheelie bins as their collection system, with the area itself spilt into two contracts, one held by Green Gorilla and the other by Waste Management. I've always been massively interested in the way things are run in Auckland. There are so many mysteries I am still trying to piece together and so many random bits of history that make the waste industry interesting up there, so I am happy to have at least documented this era of it. #909 in one of the dozen-odd trucks which local company Green Gorilla runs throughout their contracted region to collect the 120L red bins each week. The fleet is one of the more interesting of recent times, as all the side arms were sourced second-hand, meaning there is a variety of different body makes/sizes. While the majority are Volvo units, there are a few Dennis trucks that have wound up in the fleet, one obviously being that featured. I have a feeling this is a former Bundaberg Regional truck, but I'm not 100% certain about that. I caught up with this truck on two occasions, once on a Wednesday afternoon (while criminally hungover) in the inner suburbs and again the following morning in the suburb of Mount Albert, with a different driver at the helm. Also now tucked away in my archives is a second video of the rubbish collection in Auckland, featuring a GenV/Volvo, something to keep the Auckland boys on here excited for a while! A massive thanks to both drivers, as well as the runner, for being fine with my requests for videos, hope they get a kick from it should they come across it! enjoy,,, Please note that under NO CIRCUMSTANCE is any of the footage seen here to be used against the driver(s) and/or contractor(s). This video is for entertainment purposes, not to critique nor shine a poor light on any of the involved parties. Should there be any issues, please contact me.
