Part 3: New chip family – the initial challenges ... getting PPSTOOL to work.

This video demonstrates the validation process for a new chip family, specifically the PIC18F26Q24, using GCBASIC with PPSTOOL. The video covers how GCBASIC supports a new chip family through testing and that PPSTOOL needs a hacked up XML file from another chip to make the Q24 work as Microchip no longer publish the XML file. This is me being honest. For other compilers using PPSTOOL.. where did you think these XML files came from ? Yes. They are hacked up from the datasheet and a set of scripts. My ask... join in to create the best set of XML from Microchip Melody sources. My options are... do nothing... let new users use MPLAB/MCC.... they could use Standalone MMC Tool ... or, I can hack together a set to XMLs that work. Which is what I have done for the last few years. Goal: To get the PPSTOOL to work Functionality: PPSTOOL uses a set of XML files from a previous release of MPLAB. The challenge is creating an XML file that can be used by PPSTOOL. GCBASIC simplifies the use of microcontrollers, but ensuring ease for users means getting the basics right. With proper setup, the PPSTOOL will work as expected. Enjoy!
