John Philip Sousa (1854–1932) Semper Fidelis - March Arranged by Vagul Mahadevan Video Produced by Vagul Mahadevan and Vance Kreider Vance Kreider, Anais Beauvais – Trumpet Vagul Mahadevan – Trombone Addison Greenfeld – Euphonium William McLaughlin – Tuba Ryan Payne – Snare Drum John Philip Sousa, nicknamed “The March King,” is one of America’s most famous composers. He served as the director of the United States Marine Band for 12 years and wrote over 130 marches for military band over his lifetime, including “The Stars and Stripes Forever,” which is the national march of the United States of America. His patriotic compositions form the foundation of American band literature. Sousa composed “Semper Fidelis” in tears one night, having heard the Marines at Quantico sing their hymn. As a result, he named the march after the Marines’ motto, meaning “always faithful.” He considered “Semper Fidelis” his best work, and it has since been adopted as the official march of the US Marine Corps.
