On a typical British summers day, history was made as what is believed to be the first time a Stanier Jubilee to work over the Devon Banks was seen. Heading up the Railway Touring Company's Royal Duchy tour, double chimney Jubilee No.45596 'Bahamas' made its way to Plymouth. We capture the tour firstly on Rattery Bank, where having been brought to a stand at the bottom, 45596 makes steady progress on climb past the galley of photographers. For the the return we headed to the famous Hemerdon bank with its 1in42 gradient. With 45596 working on its limit, no assistance was to be needed as it crossed over the summit at around 10mph. For the last shot we headed to Whiteball Tunnel for both 45596 and the class 47 that had been following the train from Plymouth. Having overtaken Bahamas at Exeter, the 47 is seen first getting into position at Taunton. 10 minutes later 45596 speeds out of the tunnel on the final leg of its journey.
