Protecting medical devices starts with strong, reliable packaging. That’s why Eastman put Eastar 6763 copolyester to the test. Learn more about Eastar 6763 and the study at https://info.eastman.com/hammertime?u.... Jeremy Williams, a polymer engineer at Eastman, explains the Hammertime Study, where the package design uses a hammer instead of a medical device to simulate how an actual device would behave inside the packaging. This study evaluates medical packaging materials by replicating real-world conditions and applying standards like ASTM 4169 Distribution Cycle 13. It subjects materials to rigorous tests — including handling, drops, compression, vibration and concentrated impacts — to ensure they meet high standards of durability and reliability. The Hammertime Study also compares key polymers such as APET (amorphous polyethylene terephthalate) and PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol), highlighting their differences in crystallinity, aging behavior and failure modes under sterilization processes like ethylene oxide and gamma irradiation. APET, being semi-crystalline, is prone to embrittlement and aging, whereas PTEG, an amorphous polymer, behaves differently under stress. Eastman’s Eastar 6763 is engineered to overcome limitations seen in APET. Eastar 6763 offers enhanced durability and resistance to aging and embrittlement, making it an ideal choice for sterile medical packaging. In medical packaging, failure is not an option. Choose Eastar 6763 for advanced polymer technology that can improve package performance and patient safety. Stay updated on our latest innovations.
