In this episode we're checking out downtime and why it's a pretty important narrative tool for Vampire: the Masquerade, assisting the portrayal of the setting and the intended themes and moods. Ideally, in the nocturnal world of Kindred, important conflicts don't really happen on a weekly basis. The conflicts brew for extended periods of time, during which intelligence is meticulously gathered and the best course of action is prepared. It's like one big, vampiric game of chess. You rush? You're ash. Using downtime as a storytelling technique will ensure that the story has the right pacing, going from the turn-by-turn combat scenes where narrative time slows down, to fast-forwarding entire years, until a sneaky deception comes to fruition, or an important piece of information is obtained, or the torpid elder finally awakens :D Enjoy!
