Located in the county of Essex, and around 12 miles northeast of central London, is the town of Loughton. Geographically, Loughton is situated just within the M25 orbital motorway, and adjacent to Epping Forest, which provides a green belt buffer between the town and Greater London. In 1615 a road was built northwards between London at the south end and Newmarket and Cambridge at the north end. By 1730 this road had become turnpiked, and consequently, Loughton began to develop as a staging post, with coaching inns providing rest for stagecoach travellers prior to the railway era. Just northeast of the town centre is the Parish Church of St John the Baptist. This was built in the neo-Norman style, and was consecrated in 1846. In 1877 it was extended to accommodate the growing population of the town. In 1856 the railway arrived in Loughton courtesy of the Eastern Counties Railway. This was resited around 500 yards to the south in 1865, and replaced in 1940. In 1948 it became part of the London Underground, as it remains to this day, being part of the Central Line. 👇 SUBSCRIBE TO 4K EXPLORER FOR NEW VIDEOS EVERY WEEK 👇 https://www.youtube.com/4KExplorer?su...
