This video shows you how to replace the 3rd brake light (high-mount stop lamp) on your 2005–2010 Scion tC. If your center brake light has burnt-out LEDs or the housing is cracked, this is a straightforward DIY project that restores safety and ensures you pass inspection. We’ll show you how to carefully remove the interior hatch trim to access the mounting bolts without breaking the plastic clips. This repair was performed on a 2010 Scion tC (First Generation) and applies to: 2005–2010 Scion tC Parts & Specifications Part Type: LED 3rd Brake Light Assembly (The LEDs are integrated, so the entire unit is typically replaced if it fails). Pro Tip: Be gentle when pulling the interior hatch panels. Use a plastic trim tool if available to avoid scratching the plastics or deforming the metal clips. Warning: Disconnect the wiring harness before unscrewing the assembly to prevent any short circuits, and ensure the hatch is supported so it doesn't close on you while working. Tools you will need: 10mm Socket and Ratchet (or Nut Driver) Plastic Trim Removal Tool (Optional, but recommended) Microfiber Cloth (To clean the mounting area) Steps Covered: Hatch Trim Removal: Gently prying away the top center plastic trim piece on the inside of the rear hatch to reveal the mounting hardware. Disconnecting Power: Locating the white electrical connector and pressing the tab to unplug the light assembly. Removing the 10mm Nuts: Using a socket to remove the two nuts securing the light housing to the hatch frame. Extricating the Unit: Pushing the mounting studs through the frame and pulling the old light out from the exterior of the vehicle. Surface Prep: Cleaning the recessed area of the hatch to ensure the new gasket seats perfectly and prevents water leaks. Installation & Testing: Sliding the new unit into place, hand-tightening the nuts, and testing the brake lights before snapping the trim back on.
