The efficiency of a solar cell determines how much of the solar power is converted to electrical power. In order to predict the solar cell efficiency before fabrication and to achieve a deeper understanding, different models have been developed for calculating the maximum energy conversion efficiency. This video considers the effect of concentrators and thermal radiation suppression in solar cells on the Shockley-Queisser efficiency limit. This video is part of a course offered at Kiel University for advanced engineering bachelor students.
