Today I went out for a quicker run — no snow, better conditions — but my legs felt flat. Not from lack of sleep, but from higher mileage at slower paces. The speed just wasn’t there. I also didn’t help myself the night before. My wife is an amazing cook (she owns a spice business), and eating too much — even good food — has a very real impact when you’ve been running for years. Same goes for poor fuelling or even small amounts of alcohol. That’s the next shift in my marathon training: eating better reducing calories and focusing not just on distance, but speed The mileage is there. Now it’s about sharpness. I also saw a funny post today — someone claiming incredible times despite being middle-aged… they were 34. Perspective is everything.
