In 2020, Florida voters approved an amendment to raise the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2026. Across the country, other states and cities have debated or enacted similar increases, with some even proposing $30 an hour. What do economists know about the effects of raising the minimum wage? David Neumark, Professor of Economics at UC Irvine and one of the world’s foremost experts on the subject, will discuss the latest research on the impacts of minimum wage policy and what it means for workers, employers, and opportunity. This event was part of the Fall 2025 IGC Speaker Series at Florida State University. The Institute for Governance and Civics (IGC) is dedicated to becoming the nation's premier policy institute in creating the next generation of effective citizens and responsible leaders. Established in 2023, the IGC advances constitutional liberty, economic liberty, conscience liberty, and educational liberty through bold research, transformative teaching, and fearless debate.
