Have you ever wondered how the Mayans travelled through the jungle thousands of years ago? I did and then I decided to embark on a journey that would give me just a snapshot of what it used to be like. The climate in the Yucatan is hot year round with high humidity. I set out early in the morning when it was still relatively cool with a slight breeze and I still ended up sweating a fair amount. I can only imagine what it would be like to walk for miles on these limestone roads in the middle of the day when the sun is at its strongest... and no, it wouldn't be a good idea to travel at night: that's when most venomous snakes are active and your chances of stepping on one increases exponentially.
