The Muyil lagoon is only at a 20 minute drive from the town of Tulum. It's officially a part of the Sian Ka'an nature reserve and is known for birding tours. We walked to the lagoon to see the dock with the boats and after we went for a hike through the woods. This is a humid tropical environment so make sure to bring water if you decide to visit. There is also the option of taking a boat tour of the lagoon: this will set you back about 1000 Mexican pesos per person. As Muyil is located in the Mayan village of Chunyaxche, you can also buy different traditional artifacts and souvenirs.
