Why should young lawyers familiarise themselves with the role of tribunal secretary? For another episode of Arbitration Life, Janette Brin and Hana Doumal sit down with Nhu-Hoang Tran Thang. Hoang has acted as arbitrator, counsel or assistant to the arbitral tribunal in over forty arbitrations related to a variety of industries. Over the years, she has developed particular expertise in energy related disputes involving both short- and long-term supply agreements. Hoang is French trained but also acknowledgeable in Swiss law, having practiced in a number of arbitrations governed by that law. She has Vietnamese roots which often bring her to Vietnam, where she would like to expand professional opportunities in the future. In this interview, Hoang discusses how arbitration challenges practitioners to be open minded, her role as tribunal secretary and impactful experiences in her career.
