📍Los Angeles, California 🇺🇸 Los Angeles is the kind of place people dream about. The kind of place they’ll fight to stay in, even when the odds are stacked. You can feel it in the air, that mix of ocean breeze, ambition, and heartbreak. It’s not an easy city, but it’s a beautiful one. And when you see it with your own eyes, you understand what people are holding on for. We started in Santa Monica, walking along 3rd Street Promenade where palm trees sway above clean, walkable streets and the sun always seems to hit just right. We met a smiling local police officer and spotted traces of home, British pubs, tea shops, and even a woman from Hull who’s been here for 40 years. She told us how Santa Monica has changed over the decades, how it’s grown, how it’s struggled. Outside, a woman shared her story with us. Raised in Venice, now priced out of it. She lives in her vehicle after being asked for $16,000 just to move into a one-bedroom apartment in the neighborhood she calls home. It was a reminder that beauty here can be bittersweet. The promenade looked pristine, but the shuttered storefronts told a different story, one of rising rents and hard decisions. We stopped for a glass of Californian red wine on Ocean Avenue, then wandered down to Santa Monica Pier. The beach was everything you hope California might be. That golden light, the buzz of the boardwalk, the steady rhythm of the waves. We chatted with a Chinese woman about life in the States and tried our luck at the outdoor gym near Muscle Beach. In the afternoon, we made our way to Venice, where we found ourselves at Hinano Cafe, a classic beachside dive bar known for its cold beers and smash burgers. Miguel and Miguel were working behind the counter. Good blokes, working 62-hour weeks just to keep a roof over their head. And yet, they said they wouldn’t change a thing. Los Angeles isn’t just a place. It’s an idea. A feeling. From Venice Beach to Santa Monica, Ocean Park to the Pacific Coast Highway, it wraps you up in sunshine and possibility. And even when it’s slipping from your fingers, you can’t help but reach for it. We love LA. Just like we love our home in Newcastle. Two cities on opposite sides of the world, tied together by the people who refuse to give up on them. 👨🏻💻 Give us a follow on your favorite social media: / jackaynsleytravel / jackaynsleytravel & / paigeaynsleytravel / jackaynsleytravel & / paigeaynsleytravel 👋🏼 Support us!
