Garlic in Containers: 5 Month Update

In this Month 5 update of our Garlic in Containers experiment, we finally harvest the first bulb and see what five months of growing garlic in pots actually produced. So far this experiment has been surprisingly stable. Only one plant developed a scape early, while the others are still mostly in the vegetative stage. In this episode we take a close look at the 1-gallon, 2-gallon, and large container pots, compare how they’re holding moisture, and check the development of each garlic plant. Then comes the moment of truth: our first harvest. The result is... smaller than expected. But that’s part of the point of this experiment. Growing garlic in containers is something many gardeners try, and this series documents the process honestly month-by-month... including the wins, the surprises, and the occasional disappointment. We’ll cure this first bulb over the next few weeks and continue tracking the rest of the plants to see how the later scapes develop and whether the remaining garlic will size up better. This is also my first time growing garlic, so this entire series is a learning experience from start to finish.
