SUMMARY OF RESULTS: Material Type: The sewer lateral was observed to consist of ABS, Cast Iron, and clay. It should be noted that other material types may be present but could not be conclusively identified at the time of inspection. ABS piping is a type of plastic pipe made from acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) resin. It's often black in color and is used for drainage, waste, and vent (DWV) systems. Clay sewer piping, also known as vitrified clay pipe (VCP) or terra cotta sewer pipes, are pipes made from a blend of clay and shale, fired at high temperatures to create a hard, inert ceramic material, commonly used in gravity sewer collection mains for their durability and resistance to chemicals in wastewater. A "cast iron piping sewer" refers to a sewer system made from cast iron pipes, which were once commonly used in older homes for drainage, but are now largely replaced by newer materials like PVC or ABS due to their tendency to corrode and clog over time, despite their initial durability; you'll typically find cast iron sewer pipes in houses built before the 1970s. The sewer lateral was accessed from two cleanout locations. The first access point was located at the rear of the property, behind the master bedroom. The second access point was located at the front of the property within a planter box area. At the rear of the property beneath the master bedroom area, the sewer piping was identified as ABS. As the line progressed toward the family room area, the piping transitioned from ABS to cast iron. The cast iron piping exhibited moderate corrosion and scaling, which is typical for this material due to age and normal wear. The cast iron piping continued toward the front of the property, where it transitioned to clay piping near the sidewalk area. The clay pipe extended from the sidewalk to the street and connected to the municipal main sewer line. Water distribution was observed to flow smoothly throughout the inspection, with no functional deficiencies or visible defects identified at the time of testing. Conditions are subject to change, and this observation does not guarantee future performance For ongoing maintenance and peace of mind, it is generally recommended to have your sewer lateral inspected annually, even if no issues are currently present. Regular inspections can help identify and address potential problems before they become costly repairs.
