Material Type: The sewer lateral was observed to consist of ABS and Clay. It should be noted that other material types may be present but could not be conclusively identified at the time of inspection. ABS piping is a type of plastic pipe made from acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) resin. It's often black in color and is used for drainage, waste, and vent (DWV) systems. Clay sewer piping, also known as vitrified clay pipe (VCP) or terra cotta sewer pipes, are pipes made from a blend of clay and shale, fired at high temperatures to create a hard, inert ceramic material, commonly used in gravity sewer collection mains for their durability and resistance to chemicals in wastewater. A two-way 3-inch ABS cleanout was located in the entryway area and was utilized to perform the sewer lateral inspection. The camera was first advanced upstream toward the structure. The piping in this direction was identified as ABS throughout. The camera was then advanced downstream toward the street. Immediately upon entering the downstream line, the piping transitioned from ABS to clay. The clay pipe continued uninterrupted to the connection at the municipal main sewer line. The total measured length of the sewer lateral from this cleanout access point to the city main was approximately 40 feet. Water distribution was observed to flow smoothly throughout the inspection, with no functional deficiencies or visible defects identified at the time of testing. Conditions are subject to change, and this observation does not guarantee future performance For ongoing maintenance and peace of mind, it is generally recommended to have your sewer lateral inspected annually, even if no issues are currently present. Regular inspections can help identify and address potential problems before they become costly repairs.
