SUMMARY OF RESULTS: Material Type: The sewer lateral was observed to consist of cast iron and clay. It should be noted that other material types may be present but could not be conclusively identified at the time of inspection. Clay sewer piping, also known as vitrified clay pipe (VCP) or terra cotta sewer pipes, are pipes made from a blend of clay and shale, fired at high temperatures to create a hard, inert ceramic material, commonly used in gravity sewer collection mains for their durability and resistance to chemicals in wastewater. A "cast iron piping sewer" refers to a sewer system made from cast iron pipes, which were once commonly used in older homes for drainage, but are now largely replaced by newer materials like PVC or ABS due to their tendency to corrode and clog over time, despite their initial durability; you'll typically find cast iron sewer pipes in houses built before the 1970s. A 4-inch cast iron vent pipet located on the roof was utilized to perform the inspection. The total length of the sewer lateral from this access point to the city main was measured at approximately 65 feet. Water distribution was observed to flow smoothly throughout the inspection, with no functional deficiencies or visible defects identified at the time of testing. Conditions are subject to change, and this observation does not guarantee future performance. For ongoing maintenance and peace of mind, it is generally recommended to have your sewer lateral inspected annually, even if no issues are currently present. Regular inspections can help identify and address potential problems before they become costly repairs.
