I'd like to start off by thanking Anna and members of the NOC (Norton Owners Club) for all their invaluable help with this project so far. It has been fascinating to learn more about this model. Additional acknowledgements are included below. In this episode, I'm reviewing all the serial numbers for this bike. Given the historical significance of this bike, I thought it would be worthwhile to capture numbers during the disassembly process for future reference. The primary identification numbers associated with the motorcycle are: 03:41 1. Engine Number 03:13 2. Frame Number (stamped on the gusset plate and should match the engine number) 02:41 3. Gearbox Number (it isn't intended to match the engine/frame number for this model, but should be age-related) Additional numbers to support the above include: 00:34 4. Frame manufacturers date 5. Engine model number 6. Shop number With special thanks to Anna Jeannette Dixon for sharing such important historical information about the Manxman model and this bike in particular. I am very grateful! I would also like to thank Dave, Dale & Mark from the NOC and for their help and the connection to Ken Sprayson. Ken actually oversaw the building of almost all featherbed frames at Reynolds Tubes. Ken also happens to be a vice-president of the NOC club! Ken kindly confirmed that the numbers stamped on the edge of head steady lug on featherbed frames were Reynolds numbers indicating the date of manufacture. E.g. 10 60 is October 1960. This was stamped by the Inspector checking the frame before delivery to Norton. The (R6) accompanying this date is actually the Inspector's personal stamp. Other numbers, such as the swinging arm gusset plate, frame numbers etc. were stamped by Norton.
