This video presents a brief overview of the work that is being developed with Syntropic Agriculture (also known as Successional Agroforestry) at Sítio Arvor(e)Ser located in Porto Alegre, South Brazil. At the farm, we grow organic vegetables, herbs, fruits and trees for timber. The farm also hosts courses and is a regional reference in Syntropic Agriculture. With this technique, we are able to integrate the production of annual plants and herbs with perennial trees, designing agricultural systems that mimic the way that natural abundant and bio diverse forest systems work. The design is based on the understanding and application of natural principles such as: natural succession of species, stratification, ground cover, maximizing photosynthesis and others. Our work and other Syntropic initiatives in Brazil and other countries have been achieving incredible results such as: increase of soil fertility, increase resilience of the system and its biodiversity, retention of humidity in the soil, improvement of water cycles, increase organic matter levels, and other ecological services. Ernst Götsch is a swiss farmer that stablished him self in Bahia, Brazil in the 80's. he is the creator of of Syntropic Agriculture.
