The mighty and lofty concept of Ātma-sañyama-yoga /Dhyāna-yoga or Way of Meditation as revealed by Lord Krishna is most lovingly and untiringly discussed by Swami Aparajitananda, simplifying and clarifying all minute details and keeping the interest awake. Lord's teachings in this chapter form 7 TOPICS: 1) Dhyāna-yogyatā, 2) Bahiranga Sādhanā, 3) Antaranga Sādhanā, 4) Dhyāna-svarūpam, 5) Dhyāna-pratibandha, 6) Pratibandha parihāra, 7) Dhyāna-phalam. 1) DHYĀNA-YOGYATĀ: Verse 1: Lord makes statements, viz. Sannyāsī/Yogī alone is eligible and succeeds in Meditation. He need not be outer Sannyāsī. Sannyāsī is defined in the first line and beautifully explained by Swamiji. For better understanding, concepts of Karma Yoga (for basic principles) and Yogī, intelligent living are discussed. Traditional Pañcha Mahābhūtas are simplified in contemporary context. Swamiji asks the question: among the seeker and his mind, who controls whom? It is advised to start Spirituality from a scratch (humility, gratitude, holding on to God while living in the world to please God). Reason and technique are shown. Yogī and Karmī are defined. Swamiji clarifies that Sannyāsī renounces ego and handles mind as an obedient child. One who has mastered Karma Yoga (i.e. lived in the world before renouncing it) can succeed in Meditation.
