Crowden Valley is one of my old favourite places to walk in the Peak District. There are so many ways to wander off into the countryside from the car park by the road, it has to be one of Derbyshire's finest spots. You can visit the Longdendale chain of reservoirs, amble up to the quiet but large quarry, or sit by the long winding river under an oak tree. There are even ancient historic sites nearby and apparent paranormal occurrences around the tops of these hills! Well unfortunately on this occasion this won't be a supernatural tour of the area, but instead a fairly straightforward; albeit incredibly scenic, route to one of Longdendale valley's most famous landmarks, and beyond to Saddleworth! Starting from Crowden car park we'll be walking parallel to the river (Crowden Great Brook) walking up the gradual slope over some interesting features and taking in some great valley views. Gradually working our way uphill, past small waterfalls and boulders to Laddow Rocks, with some incredible views across to Bareholme Moss and down the valley over towards Wildboar Clough across Torside Reservoir. From up there we'll be cutting into the moorland, west, to Chew Reservoir. Completed in 1912 Chew Reservoir was, until 1971, the highest reservoir in England at 488m above sea level! At this point we'll have just about crossed from the High Peak in Derbyshire to Saddleworth Moor. That will bring us to an end for this quiet walk. If you fancy another walk in this same area, then I have another video starting at the same spot, but going along the Woodhead on a lesser known route with lots of interesting features along the way: • PEAK DISTRICT - Woodhead Wander & Loftend ... I hope you enjoyed the video, if you could subscribe to my channel that would be greatly appreciated, it's free! and you can receive notifications for new videos if you like, or at least they'll pop up in your feed every now and then.
