Using the Pivotell Advance automatic pill dispenser. At the programmed alarm time and when in ‘Secure’ mode the tray will rotate one half section clockwise. This unlocks the shutter and makes the dose available. An alarm will sound, the light will flash and the LCD will display ‘TAKE MED’. The user should tilt the dispenser through 180 degrees so the pills fall into their hand or a suitable container. This also cancels the audible alarm and the flashing light The shutter will remain unlocked for two minutes after the medication has been dispensed at which time the tray will move forward a further half section, locking the shutter again. This is designed to deter the user from trying to get access to other medication held in the tray by interfering with the tray through the lid opening. If the user has manual dexterity difficulties or has a habit of leaving the unit upside down, there is a tipper unit available to purchase from Pivotell. The tipper automatically reverts to an upright position after dispensing. If the dispenser is left upside down, at the next alarm time the dispenser will alarm but the tray will not rotate, so medication will not spill out onto the floor. When turned back upright, at the next alarm time, the tray will rotate to the correct dose for that time and day even if the dispenser has been upside down for several alarms.
