A sax cover of Karl Flodin's "Seabed" from YCJY Games' indie Metroidvania "The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human." In terms of aesthetic, this game reminded me a lot of Anna Anthropy's "REDDER". Both are Indie exploration games about intrepid space explorers investigating the depths of respective planets where disturbing truths are discovered over the course of the game. As "The Aquatic Adventure's" name suggests, though, the protagonist is the last human. The planet he investigates is his own home planet, Earth. Through the investigation, he discovers the ruins and last remnants of humanity -- messages detailing the catastrophe and humanity's response to the catastrophe. In this way, The Aquatic Adventure reminds me somewhat of something like "Interstellar". The intro depicts what appears to be humanity's last ditch attempt to find another planet (just like in Interstellar), and just like in Interstellar, water and ice planets feature prominently. But although Interstellar's mysterious and fortuitous wormhole eventually led to promising opportunities for humanity and heralds that appropriate use of science can triumph over crises at the species existential level (and, without spoiling too much of that film, there was more behind the development of said wormhole), The Aquatic Adventure takes a decidedly more pessimistic term. Humanity got itself into this situation through a misuse of scientific advance, and though it tries to employ the best of its science to get itself out, ultimately, we cannot escape our fate.
