Treating conditions like osteitis pubis can be particularly challenging in the world of hip and groin pain. This is especially true when patients have not responded to standard interventions like extensive physiotherapy or previous symphysis pubis injections. Take Alex, for example. He came to me with a 2 year history of chronic groin and lower abdominal pain. Despite multiple physio sessions and injections, there was little to no improvement. Alex had even stopped running and playing football, feeling increasingly despondent about his situation. Fast forward just four months, and we turned things around. With a specifically tailored rehabilitation programme, Alex is now entirely pain-free during his activities of daily living (ADLs) and has returned to running 5km regularly. I've also provided him with football-specific drills, and he’s now set to return to the pitch in just six weeks. From no progress in 2 years, he is able to return to running in less than 4 months. The key takeaway here is that a generic approach—such as those often used for conditions like FAI syndrome or adductor-related groin pain—simply doesn’t cut it with cases like Alex’s. These are far more complex and require advanced clinical reasoning and a tailored, holistic management plan. Are you ready to enhance your skills in managing these intricate and challenging hip and groin cases?
