Please note, this review does contain some spoilers! Hello, Internet and WELCOME to RetroNick Relics! The show where I scour the Internet, to find all the weird stuff YOU have never played and give my 2-bit opinion on these 8 through 32-bit… relics. This time around we've got a two-for-one deal! We're going to lift the hood on the 1988 arcade classic, Splatterhouse, and see if we can figure out what makes it tick. PLUS, we'll get a good look at the infamous ROM Hack, Splatterhouse Chrome, to see what the mad lads in 2009 did to this beautiful brawler, to make it extremely difficult and super bloody. What does Retro Nick think of these relics? You'll just have to watch and see, buckaroo! The majority of in-game footage has been captured from the U.S. Turbgrafx-16 version, which is the one I played the most growing up. This video doesn't delve too deeply into changes resulting from the technical limitations of the PC-Engine or censorship of the Turbografx-16 release, focusing more instead on the ROM hack of the original Japanese release. If you patch the original ROM you can load this onto an everdrive and play it on your original hardware. After production I discovered the level select cheat, that you can access by pressing Run at the start screen, and then hitting the Select button 3 times once the prelude starts. Then hold down LEFT on the D-pad and press button I or II to pull up level select. This cheat also works in Splatterhouse Chrome, which allowed me to see a bit more of the game. There may be a follow up review for Chrome at a later date. Nowe I’ve spent more enough time singing these games' praises. Let’s get into it! Sources. Check out his channel at / vito , or listen to his podcast “The Biggest Problem in the Universe,” and vote on all the problems at http://wwww.biggestproblem.com Also, a VERY special thank you to the RetroGame Squad podcast, who took the time to review my rough draft and often has me on to talk about more obscure Japanese games that no one around here has ever heard of! You can find them here, at http://www.retrogamesquad.com, and you can hear yours truly wax nostalgic on their Turbografx-16 and Sega Saturn episodes, as well as their co-op games and PC-Engine episodes. If you like what you’ve seen, please tune in next time to see what relics I dig up next! Also feel free to follow me on twitter, at http://www.x.com/retron8, where I spew more opinions, share memes, and interact with other Retronauts out there. Thank you so much for watching! I’m RetroNick, and you’d be too if you were me!
