Starting since July 1st - because of the government refusing to give the state of Pennsylvania the needed funding in order to continue operating frequent and constant subway, bus, tram and regional commuter services - SEPTA was forced to initiate up to a 20% decrease on all bus and rail services that remain, while nearly half of the agencies service is effectively discontinued. Fares in order to be able to handle not being funded will go up September 1st to $2.90, similar to the NY MTA. This monumental budget cut crisis takes away a vast majority of Philadelphia's convenience, adding a new every day struggle to the average commuter. For the budget cuts, a total of 50 bus routes, 5 regional rail branches, and 1 subway line became marked down for elimination. 16 bus routes were confirmed shortened from their original length, 5 bus routes rerouted to soften the blow to some communities and serve parts that need the service, and finally 2 trolley routes converted into bus routes instead. All of this, plus the 20% decrease in the general service patterns and schedules of all rail and most remaining buses adds to an absolute nightmare in urban transport, and deserves immediate action to reverse the severe changes. After the initial service cuts - if action is still not taken by legislation - further cuts are scheduled to take place by January 2026, onto the already catastrophic cuts that were put into affect August 24th. This second phase of service cuts are to result in a curfew of 9 PM for almost every form of transit, and the discontinuation and potential abandonment of the Broad-Ridge Spur of the Broad Street Line. The G1 otherwise known as the Gerard Street Trolley or Route 15 would lose its trolley service and begin using buses only, as well as the T1 otherwise known previously as Route 10. While the initial August 2025 cuts put into place already do not have these changes and majority is service reductions rather than service cuts, many bus routes have still been discontinued and if funding is not procured by the beginning of 2026, these cuts will become more severe and add up to the aforementioned 50 bus routes, 5 regional rail and 1 subway line eliminations. However, if funding is procured in due time, SEPTA after a brief period of restoration promises to restore all eliminated, reduced and rerouted routes from the initial budget cut or cuts, and will run as intended prior to the first service cut. Until this happens, service will run at a much slower pace, with some commuters already needing alternatives for bus routes that have now been eliminated. This phase of service for SEPTA will last residents of Philadelphia until the January 2026, forcing the system to effectively stop the majority of their service and become largely inactive, leaving most of Philadelphia with no transit agency to serve them, until further notice. #septa Below are the timestamps of the video for every service recorded in this video: Broad-Ridge Spur (The B3) Express Ride [Reduced Aug. 2025, ELIMINATED JAN. 2026]- 0:00 SEPTA Regional Rail Action @ Jefferson Station [All Reduced Aug. 2025, CURFEW JAN. 2026] - 10:30 General Transit Bus Action ft.
