Color Spaces Demystified by Wayne Prentice

Presentation by Wayne Prentice to Rochester, NY chapter of IS&T (Society for Imaging Science and Tech.) on 26 March, 2025. Anyone who has ever had to work with image data has interacted with a color space. Each color space comes with a set of definitions that are important for interpreting the values within. The point of this talk is to provide you with an understanding of what is behind different color spaces. We are not going to talk about all color spaces. The goal is to cover a set that reflects what a user of imaging systems is likely to encounter, and color spaces that introduce novel concepts that add to the overall understanding. Wayne has worked in the imaging industry for over 35 years, for systems ranging from X-ray, CAT scanners, MRI, extra-terrestrial imaging, and digital cameras. He has worked as an independent contractor over the past 7 years, providing solutions to a wide range of imaging challenges, mostly in developing custom camera applications, computer vision, and HDR imaging.
