IPM Invader is a fixed shooter arcade game released in 1979 by IPM, a Japanese company that later became known as Irem. It is recognized as a direct, unauthorized clone or bootleg of the original Space Invaders game developed by Taito in 1978. While the core gameplay mirrors the original Space Invaders, IPM Invader introduced some differences. It used a color monitor, unlike the original black and white Space Invaders game which used a mirror and a background overlay to achieve color effects. A unique feature to IPM Invader, a "coffee break" sequence appears after every third wave of invaders. When advanced dip switch settings are used, the game becomes more challenging with the introduction of UFOs that drop "capsules".
