Dianna Eastep, a high school Physics teacher, talks about the divide between classroom and modern physics. Two of the most recognized physicists are Einstein and Newton; however, we only focus so little on Einstein. Schools and students have been so caught up in the world of standardized testing material which primarily includes Newton, that they fail to see the fascination of Einstein’s theories. Dianna Eastep wants physics classes to go beyond the endless set of formulas and calculations and look into the world of modern physics. That controlled by GPS, satellites, and Einstein so one day students can look back to the ends of their physics classes in awe rather than relief. Mrs. Dianna Eastep holds two degrees from Rutgers University, a Bachelor of Science and a Masters degree in Education Administration. She also holds a second Masters of Arts in Physics Education from the University of Virginia. She started her teaching career at East Brunswick High school, was immediately hired, and has been here ever since. Throughout her teaching career, Mrs. Eastep has taught multiple levels of Physics, Chemistry, and Astronomy and has been involved in the writing of curriculum for many courses in the East Brunswick Science department. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
