Just before the sacred month of Sawan began, we travelled to Deoghar in Jharkhand, home to the Baba Baidyanath Dham, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and among the most important Shiva shrines in the country. This visit was made possible in collaboration with Trip to Temple, our travel partner for this journey. We began the day at the temple. First we met one of the main priests. The queues were already building. After a long wait of nearly four to five hours, we finally made it inside for darshan. The experience was powerful, crowds of pilgrims and an atmosphere soaked in chaos and devotion. He then shared stories about the temple’s mythological origins, its connection to Ravana, and why it holds such deep significance for so many. Though Anubhav had visited before, he felt the place revealed something new each time, especially just ahead of the Sawan rush. Of course, Deoghar is also known for its peda. After the darshan, we made our way to the famous Peda Wali Gali, a bustling street lined with sweet shops stacked with trays of freshly made peda. We stopped at Kanhai Lal and Sons, a shop with a long-standing legacy. A chat with the owner gave us insight into their process, their history, and what makes their peda stand out in a town full of sweet makers. We ended the day with some much-needed comfort at Awantika, a place known for its Bengali snacks and sweets. This journey, like many others, weaves together food, culture, and lived experience, About the host: https://anubhavsapra.com/ Also follow us on Facebook: / delhifoodwalks Twitter: / delhifoodwalks Instagram: / delhifoodwalks Design and filmed by Rahul Singh Texts by Swetaleena Nayak
