Warabi Mochi Kit Recipe (Company name: Maehara Seifun) It is a translation of the direction on the package. Watch the video for the US version. Lots of tips. Serves: ~4 small portions Ingredients (as listed on package): 1 packet (65g) Warabi mochi powder(bracken root starch)– included in kit Water: 300ml Sugar: 20g–65g (to taste) 1 packet(15g) Kinako (roasted soybean flour) – included in kit 1 packet (20g) Kuromitsu (black sugar syrup) – included in kit Tools You’ll Need: Microwave-safe bowl Spoon Plastic wrap Flat container (for cooling the mochi) Large bowl (for ice bath – big enough to fit the flat container) Ice (optional, for faster setting) Instructions (500–600W Microwave): Mix the base:In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the warabi mochi powder with 300ml water. Stir well until no lumps remain.Add sugar (20g–65g) now if using. First heat:Cover loosely with plastic wrap and microwave for 2 minutes. Stir:Remove and stir thoroughly with a spoon. Second heat:Microwave for 1 minute, then stir again. Final heat:Microwave for 1 more minute.→ If white patches remain, heat in 10–20 second bursts until it turns into a thick, syrupy paste (it won’t be fully translucent). Cool & set:Pour the mixture into a flat container.Place the container in a large bowl of cold water (add ice for faster cooling). Let it sit for 20–30 minutes until firm. Cut & serve:Remove from the container, cut into bite-sized pieces, and dust with kinako. Drizzle kuromitsu just before eating to keep the mochi soft and jiggly.
