All the action from Friday 12th September with @southwalestrainspotting5090 at the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway's Spectacular Steam Gala, featuring star guest LBSCR Terrier No. 72 ‘Fenchurch’, visiting courtesy of the Bluebell Railway. The Terrier is 153 years old, having been built in 1872 at Brighton Works and is believed to be the first Terrier to ever steam in Wales, making its visit somewhat significant. 'Fenchurch' joined visiting locomotives Hunslet Works No 1589 ‘Newstead’ 0-6-0ST The Lost Engine with an extraordinary backstory having been thought lost and rediscovered in a convent, visiting courtesy of The North Norfolk Railway and Hudswell Clarke No.1208 ‘Illingworth’ (running as ‘Harold’) courtesy of Stephen Middleton of Stately Trains and the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, all working alongside Hunslet Works No 1873 Jessie 0-6-0ST. Despite the early rain and mixed weather, the day kicked off with a historic ceremony where, following an 81 year wait, ‘Fenchurch’ hauled the first passenger train from Blaenavon High Level platform 2 since 1941, following the installation of the new platform! This was certainly an exciting event with plenty for rail enthusiasts and the general public alike, held in South Wales, the gala celebrated the rich heritage of steam locomotives with a range of services from local shuttle trains, to demonstration freights, double headers and a host of other static exhibits to capture around the site. We see a great variety of steam engines in action, take a tour of the engine and carriage sheds packed with interesting locomotives and rolling stock, and enjoy scenic train rides through the picturesque countryside. The event runs over the weekend with the addition of Andrew Barclays Works No 1219 Caledonian Works 0-4-0ST (not running on the Friday) and there was certainly a lot happening and worth seeing today! | 12.09.2025 I hope you enjoy this video and thank you for watching!
