🦇 Capricorn Caves ~ Cathedral Cave Tour in Queensland Capricorn Caves are limestone caves located 23 kilometres North of Rockhampton. They are one of the largest privately owned cave systems in Australia. The caves were discovered in 1881 and opened to the public in 1884. It is now one of the longest-running tourist attractions in Queensland. There is a cafe, informative displays and a gift shop near the reception area. We did the Cathedral Cave Tour; this is the most popular tour as it showcases the largest and most spectacular caves. The tour consists of a guided one-kilometre walk through the caves and takes one hour. To check availability and make a booking ~ click here ~ https://www.viator.com/en-AU/tours/Qu... We met our guide outside the reception area, and she took us to the cave entrance. As we wandered along, we learned about the cave system's geological history, early explorers, and the fauna and flora in the area. Capricorn Cave is an above-ground cave with several sections of stairs to walk into; once inside, it is quite open and spacious. We follow our guide into the brightly lit limestone cavern that contains rare ferns, massive tree roots, and some small bats. When we arrived at the high-domed Cathedral Cave, we sat on the pews and listened to a recording of the song Hallelujah. The cave is renowned for its acoustics and is regularly used for weddings and special events. At the end of the tour, you can take the easy way out with the tour guide or walk through the rocky Zig Zag passage and over two suspension bridges to emerge into the rainforest. The road from Rockhampton to the caves is fully sealed, and there is plenty of parking available for cars, motorhomes and caravans.
