Localizado no distrito de Beja, no Baixo-Alentejo entre a Serra do Caldeirão e a planície alentejana, Almodôvar, é uma típica vila serrana, e um escape ao reboliço das modernas cidades. Por todo o município encontra-se vestígios da ocupação romana e islâmica. Pelas ruas de Almodôvar, encontramos inúmeras esculturas de Aureliano Aguiar. São homenagens a atividades importantes no concelho, feitas com ferro velho, como se pode ver com as esculturas do Bombeiro, do Mineiro e do Sapateiro. A economia da região assenta na criação de gado, apicultura, produção de leite e queijo aguardente de medronho e a cortiça. Located in the district of Beja, in Baixo-Alentejo between Serra do Caldeirão and the Alentejo plain, Almodôvar is a typical mountain village, and an escape from the hustle and bustle of modern cities. Throughout the municipality there are traces of Roman and Islamic occupation. Along the streets of Almodôvar, we find countless sculptures by Aureliano Aguiar. They are tributes to important activities in the municipality, made with old iron, as can be seen with the sculptures of the Firefighter, the Miner and the Shoemaker. The region's economy is based on cattle breeding, beekeeping, milk and cheese production, medronho brandy and cork.
