We love our customers, and we love being trust to take care of their valued and valuable rides unfortunately due to scheduling we aren't always available to handle things when needed. In this case our customer was hearing what sounded like a sloppy timing chain from the front of his Lincoln MKVIII and needed to get the setup replaced, with our already busy schedule being packed full we both agreed it was something that a Ford Dealership could handle. So off to the dealership Craig went with his MKVIII LSC with a complete brand new timing set in hand. Unfortunately this is where things get a little odd and awkward. After a week of sitting at the dealership to be worked on the car was finally pulled in and the work begun. A few hours later our customer received a phone call letting him know the 4.6 4V Ford motor had "massive amounts of metal in the oil pan" and he "needed a new motor". Not expecting this kind of phone call for a vehicle he drove to the dealership our customer reached out to us so we could give a second opinion on the matter. The situation when we arrived was, odd, to say the least. The accessories had been removed from the motor as had the battery and probably half of the front cover disassembly process completed. The valve covers were removed. What was quoted as an "8 hour job" was very obviously no where near completed. The details at this point aren't something we want to go over but the decision was made to tow the vehicle from that ford dealership to our shop so we could do the job ourselves. So, we start with a very well maintained Lincoln Super Coupe, in need of a timing chain replacement that was driven before servicing started. Full honesty, these are cars MOST dealerships certainly don't see anymore. The technology was pretty cutting edge for 1995 and only available in a select few cars. The 1995 Lincoln MKVIII, the Mustang Cobra, and that's about it. The timing job is considerably more complicated than a 4.6 2V modular V8. Also, at 25+ years old, how many techs in a dealership were even around when these things were new? Not many. This story is complicated and we fully admit that is the case. We don't know exactly what we are getting ourselves into here and in all honesty will be learning and discovering the situation as we pick up where the dealership technician left off. Lucore Automotive is a small independent american small business located just outside Columbus Ohio. While we are a full service shop that maintains and repairs countless daily drivers we are also well known for our work on classics, race cars, and collector cars. We would like to thank all of our friends, fans, follower, supporters, subscribers, and most importantly customers for being here with us! Without the wonderful people who let us work on their toys, and help their dreams come true we wouldn't be in business.
