How To Deal with High Balls in Tennis - 6 Ways We've all played those opponents that hit high balls to us constantly. If you don't know how to deal with high balls in tennis, it can become a real nightmare. In this lesson, Coach Simon Konov of Top Tennis Training will show you six different ways that you can handle and deal with high balls in tennis. Method One: Move back and let the ball drop. This is the safest option, but also the most defensive. Method Two: Take the ball on the rise. This means you hit the ball before it gets too high. Great timing is required to pull off this option. Method Three: Slice the ball. This is a great way to change up the dynamics of the point and throw off your opponent's timing. Method Four: Hit the ball as a half volley. This means you're hitting the ball just after the bounce. This option requires perfect timing and you'll probably want to shorten your swings. Method Five: Hit a drive volley. This means you hit the ball before it bounces, but instead of hitting a normal volley, you hit a drive or swinging volley. Method Six: Hit the ball at the apex. This means you're hitting the ball at the highest spot, in that dead zone, where the ball is not rising or dropping. Method Seven (bonus) Hit an inside-in or inside-out forehand.
