Our Maytag dishwasher seems to be having the same problems with the control panel as everyone else on the internet. Since I had a few old control panels (one on warranty, the other cost about $150) I was able to do a bit of reverse engineering. The flaw appears to be in the flat plastic cable connecting the panel to the control board. I determined which connections were attached to key buttons and identified that there is a constant 10k ohm connection between pin 6 and pin 12. By removing the flat plastic cable connector from the control board I was able to solder ribbon wire directly to the control board and connect resistors and switches to get the dishwasher working. The switches will be placed more elegantly in a permanent fix, now that I know it works. While I am pleased with this fix, I bow in the general direction of the person who replaced the whole control board with an Arduino and some relays. http://www.neonsquirt.com/dishwasher....
