Discovering Calculus in 13th century palm leaf manuscript Poetry In this highly informative talk at the TEDx Thiruvananthapuram hosted by Acsia Technologies with support from Fortune IAS Academy, Capt Litty Chacko shares her two decades of research on Sangamagrama Madhava who had developed the basis of calculus in Kerala, three centuries before Newton in Europe. Based on her recovery of ancient manuscripts, she firmly urges for the recovery and popularisation of ancient Indian science and mathematics including the research communication method pioneered by Madhava in his works. The local works from the 14th century still influence our progress globally. Capt. Litty Chacko is a distinguished academic, writer, speaker, and researcher at St. Joseph's College, Irinjalakuda. Her expertise spans various fields, including academics, heritage preservation, and environmental protection. For over two decades, Ms. Chacko has conducted independent research on the life and works of the medieval Indian mathematician, Sangamagrama Madhavan, and the Kerala School of Mathematics. Her work has led to the discovery and preservation of numerous unpublished manuscripts and texts. Notably, she found and published a significant 12th-century stone inscription from the Irinjadappilly Mana, the ancestral home of Sangamagrama Madhavan. She also specializes in various South Indian scripts and ancient writing materials. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
