Foreknowledge: Does God Knowing Require God Causing? In this lesson, we carefully examine the biblical word foreknowledge and why it is central to understanding God’s sovereignty, human responsibility, and salvation. Rather than approaching the subject through philosophical assumptions or theological systems, this study allows Scripture and biblical vocabulary to define the term on its own terms. By looking at the original language and key passages, we see that foreknowledge simply means to know beforehand. Scripture never defines foreknowledge as coercion, manipulation, or foreordination. God’s perfect knowledge does not require Him to force events or override human choice. Instead, the Bible consistently presents foreknowledge as God’s eternal, complete, and flawless knowledge of all things, including real human decisions. This episode also addresses common claims that foreknowledge must mean predetermination and explains why that conclusion is not supported by grammar, context, or usage in Scripture. Using biblical examples and practical illustration, we show that God’s foreknowledge actually magnifies His greatness. He accomplishes His will without removing responsibility, excusing sin, or emptying human choices of meaning. This lesson restores confidence in the text by showing that God’s knowing does not weaken His sovereignty. It reveals a God who knows perfectly, governs wisely, and remains fully just while holding mankind accountable.
