Fatal Fury 1 (alt) [Arcade] - play as Tung Fu Rue

This is a playthrough using Tung Fu Rue in the Arcade version of Fatal Fury 1. Read on below for more information... Tung Fu Rue is one of the first four enemy characters you can choose to fight against as your starting opponent. He is an unplayable character in this version of the game. This is an alternative version of the Arcade game, where the boss characters are specially made playable. ===== ABOUT FF1 TUNG FU RUE ===== He uses the fighting style of Hakkyokuseiken, and is the former master of Geese Howard, Jeff Bogard and Cheng Sinzan. He wanted Jeff to be his successor, but Geese found out and murdered Jeff out of jealousy. Tung was saddened by the loss, and discarded the idea of adopting a successor. He entered the King of Fighters tournament held by Geese, but was eventually defeated. In FF1, he has a rather unique gameplay trait where he tranforms into a muscled/beast version of himself when he loses around 30% of life. When he is in his "beast" mode he is an entirely different character with different basics and special moves. When he is in this mode, losing a further specific amount of life will make him transform back to normal Tung. ===== BUGS & GLITCHES ===== As he is originally a non-playable character, there are a number of interesting factors to note when a human player controls him, as follows: ---- There are various glitches that can occur. Some of these faults are the result of Tung Fu Rue not being programmed to fight against and interact with the other bosses. ---- When under human control, he cannot block. This makes the beast version of him "weak", because he is a big target. ---- The normal Tung cannot throw. ---- The beast Tung can throw, but when it successfully grabs a boss/enemy character, is glitched in that the opponent falls the wrong way. It works as normal against Joe, Terry and Andy of course. ---- He is able to perform his Double Fireball special move in the air. However this is not intended, as the animations of it is of the ground version, meaning that it's the exact same move. The projectile itself always remains on ground level if Tung does it in the air. The CPU Tung never uses this of course. ---- When he is thrown by an enemy/boss character, he falls the wrong way and the wrong animation frames are used. ---- His colour palette is correct for the first 4 matches against the first set of enemy opponents (Meyer, Max, Duck and Tung). After that, his colour palette is "wrong" for the remaining matches against the second set of bosses. ---- His wrong colour palette looks to be Geese Howard's colours. ---- Beast Tung has the wrong or no jumping animations. He does not even have any jumping basics. ---- When Beast Tung is in the background plane and his opponent is in the foreground plane, you can press and hold Down to roll into the foreground plane. However, this is glitched because the animations for it are not correct, and you need to hold Down to make the successful roll. If you roll halfway and release Down, he goes back to the background plane. ---- When his opponent is on an opposite plane to him, both Tungs have a few wrong animations for some of their actions. ---- As Beast Tung, when holding Down and after pressing a button, he goes through his "transforming back to normal Tung" animations and repeats it as long as Down is held. This doesn't actually transform him. ===== TRIVIA ===== ---- His name "Tung Fu Rue" is an alias and is not his real name. His real name is unknown. ---- In some games, Tung Fu Rue has a move called the Chou Shou Nami. It is most likely a parody of the MAX Power Kamehameha move used by Master Roshi in the Dragon Ball franchise. ===== ABOUT FATAL FURY 1 ===== This is where SNK started their bid for their take on the fighting game genre. Fatal Fury 1 was a somewhat decent approach, but it was always going to be up against Capcom's Street Fighter II, which was released in the same year (1991). Perhaps the most "unique" aspect of the game is the fact that the characters can fight on two planes - the background and foreground, with the foreground being the standard view. I imagine this must've been a graphical achievement at the time. The game also marks the debut of Terry, Andy and Joe, before going on to become staples of the SNK fighting game world. The same also applies to some of the enemy/boss characters, such as Geese Howard and Billy Kane, who go on to appear in future SNK fighting games... with the former even appearing in Tekken 7. It should also be noted that the game's subtitle is The King of Fighters... this subtitle would later become the name of it's own fighting game series. The Fatal Fury storyline is loosely connected to the King of Fighters storyline, as the Fatal Fury Team's ending in KOF94 shows.
