Room tour of room, fitness-centre and pool of the Hilton Berlin As a disclaimer, the hotel is currently undergoing renovation and thus not all facilities were available and the hotel not fully operational. Restaurants and executive lounge were closed. The hotel is at Gendarmennmarkt and five minutes’ walk from “Unter den Linden” and 15 minutes from Brandeburg Gate. The hotel is large and was built in the 80iers and renovated before it opened as Hilton Hotel in 1992. It offers all amenities one would except from a Hilton Hotel in Germany’s capital. It has six floors. The executive lounge is on the ground floor, while the breakfast restaurant is on the first floor overlooking Gendarmenmarkt. Also on the first floor are conference, board, meeting and ballrooms. The hotel has an indoor pool with Spa (open from 07:00 to 22:00) and a medium sized fitness centre (open 24/7). The pool is free for all Hilton Honors members, while the Spa only for Hilton Diamond Members. Listo restaurant is on the ground floor. The check-in desks are on the right-hand side of the lobby. There are two dedicated desks for Hilton Honors Members. Check in was okay, friendly and professional. I was welcomed as Hilton Honors Diamond Members and informed that I received an upgrade to a room facing Gendarmenmarkt. As it was on the lowest third floor and above the entrance, I asked for an available room facing the courtyard on the highest possible floor. These rooms do not offer any view but are usually much quieter. I was informed that the lounge was temporarily moved to the first floor next to the meeting rooms and breakfast served in the restaurant in the lobby rather than the dedicated restaurant on the first floor. I received an not refurbished room. These rooms follow more or less the standard layout. A closet and the place to store luggage were opposite the entrance to the bath. The closet was large enough for more than just a few items. The bathroom with bath, sink and toilet is next to the entrance. There is a glass panel at the bath which is way too short. Water pressure was okay. Towels – small, medium and large – were provided for two people. A heated towel rack is available. Shampoo, lotion, and bath gel were large wall mounted bottles. Tea and coffee facilities were provided on a sideboard in the room. The room featured a bed with two bedside tables with plugs, phone and alarm clock. Reading lights were available. An armchair with a small table was in front of the window. The glass desk was nice to look at, but if you use a mouse you know about the difficulties 😉 The desk came with two sockets but not USB Charging outlets. The W-LAN was fast and reliable, and it was possible to set up a stable VPN connection. The large TV was placed opposite the bed The design of the room uses darker and light brown colours. It is outdated and the renovation more than overdue. The room was clean but showed signs of wear and tear. The bed was nevertheless comfortable. Housekeeping entered the room despite the do not disturb sign. The pool and especially the wellness area re nice and large and during the day not that busy. The fitness-centre is given the size of the hotel not very large, but the machines are new and modern.
