Many people today struggle to find purpose, value or meaning in their lives. A generation of young people have grown hopeless and nihilistic and appear to be on a slow stagger toward death, sometimes at their own hands. As the people of God, it is our duty to find these people, intercept them, and bring them the message of hope found in the Bible. In fact, if we fail to fulfill this duty, God will hold us responsible for our own sins and theirs. That is why one of the Sayings of the Wise in Proverbs 24, verses 11-12, says: 11 Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. 12 If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done? Ours is a call to activism. God is sending us on a mission to save the world from hopelessness. The word "apostle" comes from the Greek word meaning "sent ones." We are sent in the spirit of the apostles, but also in the spirit of the prophets. Listen to God's words to one of his prophets in Ezekiel 3, verses 17-19: 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 18 When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. 19 But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn from their wickedness or from their evil ways, they will die for their sin; but you will have saved yourself. It is not enough to simply recognize that the world is tilting toward self-destruction. God calls us to go boldly forward and proclaim his message of hope to those staggering toward death. If we do not answer that call, we are all heading to the same disastrous end together. But we will answer the call, because the message of Jesus Christ is the message of life, and that life brings meaning to those who share and receive it alike. This is another episode in the series entitled, "The Sayings of the Wise."
