Sunflora isn't just a common sunflower. It has stylized eyes and mouth! And a respectable base Special Attack of 105, so it isn't as harmless as an ordinary flower. But like a sunflower that would walk on its roots, it's quite slow, with a base Speed of only 30. So thanks, PokéRogue and the balance team for giving it Quiver Dance! That move suits Sunflora very well. Quiver Dance is one of the best setup moves ever, so it would be welcome on any special attacker, but it's particularly useful on the cheerful sunflower since it raises its Speed by one stage, together with its Special Attack and Special Defence. Another thing that could improve Sunflora's Speed is the combination of its Passive Ability, Drought, and one of its Abilities, Chlorophyll. Drought allows the cheerful sunflower to cast harsh sunlight upon entering the field, which in turn activates Chlorophyll's effect of doubling the Speed of the Pokémon with this Ability. For most of my run, Sunflora only had 2 Carbos, but after just a couple of Quiver Dances, it was able to outspeed the vast majority of Pokémon it faced! As for my moveset, the only two moves that kept constantly during the run were Giga Drain and Quiver Dance. I chose Giga Drain as my main STAB move because, in my solo runs, I value moves that can keep my Pokémon healthy while doing a good amount of damage to the opponent, but if I had a full team, I would probably have replaced it with Solar Beam (and probably give Sunflora Solar Power instead of Chlorophyll). As for the remaining two moves in the moveset, with Sunflora, I felt a massive four moveslot syndrome, and I wasn't able to find a combination of two moves that suited all my needs. For this reason, I mostly went with Dazzling Gleam—primarily for coverage against Dragon-types, and to hit both opponents in double battles— and Earth Power—to counter Fire-, Poison-, and Steel-types. On paper, this moveset is unresisted, but it's far from true, because with this moveset, Flying- and Steel-types like Corviknight, and Flying- and Fire-types like Talonflame are a major threat. I could have solved the first problem by replacing Dazzling Gleam with the Fiery Dance Egg Move, but the second problem would still be present. If I replaced Dazzling Gleam with the Hydro Steam Egg Move instead, I could hit the steel birds effectively and the fire birds supereffectively, but then I would have problems with Grass-types. I even tried to add Sludge Bomb to the mix, but it caused other kinds of issues. In the end, I 'solved' my four moveslot syndrome by using a main moveset composed of Giga Drain, Dazzling Gleam, Earth Power, and Quiver Dance, and then replaced some of those moves with a Memory Mushroom when needed. Since Quiver Dance would have improved its Speed and Special Attack, I preferred to use Sunflora's Nature to improve its weak base Defence of 55 by giving it a Bold Nature, which improves its Defence at the expense of its Attack. I had to retry multiple times some hard fights and reload the game a lot to get better rewards in the shop (reloading the game doesn't change the rewards in the shop, but it gives me a better awareness of the shop content in each wave and better rewards in the long run). Against all odds, I managed to solo this run on my first try. On this run, I played PokéRogue version 1.11.6. 00:00:00 Start 00:00:15 W25 Rival Ivy 00:01:32 W37 Sunflora 00:01:53 W66 Flare Admin Bryony 00:03:28 W95 Rival Ivy 00:04:40 W112 Flare Grunt 00:06:07 W118 Mightiest Brock 00:08:27 W120 Gym Leader Roark 00:10:09 W195 Rival Ivy (+ Lost at Sea) 00:12:13 W156 Clowning Around (win) 00:13:57 W165 Flare Boss Lysandre 00:16:03 W167 'Fight or Flight' Gigalith 00:16:50 W170 Boss Uxie 00:17:03 W182 Elite Four Rika 00:18:48 W184 Elite Four Poppy 00:20:53 W186 Elite Four Larry 00:22:34 W188 Elite Four Hassel 00:24:15 W190 Champion Nemona 00:26:01 W195 Rival Ivy 00:27:53 W200 Eternatus
