Northern Association of Model Engineers (NAME) Exhibition 2004, at “The Centre”, Risley, Warrington. Part 2 ;- (see below) Wrexham & DMES 5” gauge LMS Hughes/Fowler ‘Crab’ 2-6-0, as before. Amazing paintwork & machining and backhead, very authentic. The full-size loco was a Class 5MT, designed by George Hughes of the former L&Y, and Sir Henry Fowler of the former Midland Railway. The chief draughtsman was J. R. Billington. They were built in 1926 – 32 at Horwich & Crewe Works. Livery – the first 100 were in Crimson Lake, with black borders lined in yellow. 5” gauge L & Y 2-4-2 Radial Tank, as before. The full-sized loco was built at Horwich in 1889. 5” gauge 3-plank wagon, to the left of the 2-6-0 ‘Crab’ Very nice small (just a nice size) scale traction engine, which happens to be connected to an adjacent Thresher by a belt drive from it’s flywheel. 5” gauge GWR ‘14xx’ Class, 0-4-2 with inside cylinders. Designed by Collett for light branch-line work, and introduced in 1932. These locomotives were push-pull fitted for auto train working. Weight : 41 tons, Cylinders : 16” x 24”, Driving wheels : 5 Ft 2 ins diameter. Beautiful model. Southport & DMES Club Shows their ‘wall’ stand with many photographs showing their track, the member’s locos, their Club House, their new Southport Model Boat Club Lake, and the construction of these various facilities. Loco’s noticed on photographs include;- 5” gauge Sweet Pea, 5” gauge Midland Compound, 3 ½” gauge Juliette, 3 ½” gauge inside-cylindered Tank loco, 3 ½” gauge LMS Class 5MT (Doris), 5” gauge Princess Coronation, and 3 ½” gauge Princess Marina. 5” gauge LMS Class 5MT, part-built 3 ½” gauge LMS Class 5MT, in front of the 5” gauge Black 5. 3 ½” gauge Princess Marina LMS 2-6-0 Mogul, with strangely dull paint work. 3 ½” gauge Rob Roy 5” gauge LBSCR ‘Terrier’ (Stroudley) 5” gauge Simplex
