When you can't pronate, you can't "ground". When you lose "grounding", your tension goes up, your lower back goes into extension, and your neck becomes used for breathing in a dysfunctional way. To decrease bodily tension, you need to "ground", which means you need to pronate effectively and stop using your neck to breathe. In the videos you'll see the women's sternocleidomastoids and scalenes as they are used to pull the ribcage up to try and facilitate air flow to compensate for lack of diaphragmatic breathing. People who have had repeated ankle sprains, breaks, or other injuries to their lower extremities may need to consider a custom made orthotic to guide their lower extremity into proper pronation. Without it, they may not be able to stop using their neck for compensatory breathing nor get themselves out of extension. Grounding and proper breathing go hand-in-hand, which means pronation and breathing go hand-in-hand.
