Is your prayer perhaps stuck in a hesitant "if" that merely tests the Lord's power? A father whose son was possessed by an evil spirit pleaded with Jesus, "If you can do anything, please help us." This was a human question, born of doubt, asking if the Lord truly had the power. Jesus answered him firmly: "What do you mean, 'If you can'!" True faith is not about testing His power, but deeply trusting in His will. The father cried out in desperation: "I do believe! Please help me overcome my unbelief!" Faith was not perfect certainty, but a humble confession of clinging to the Lord while honestly admitting our human weakness. Jesus confirmed His eternal love through the cross and the resurrection, and today He invites us to the place of faith. Today, let us not test the Lord with our doubts, but move forward with the firm trust: "If it is the Lord's will, everything is possible." Let us humbly rely on Him every day, confessing and asking Him to strengthen our fragile faith. Mark 9:14-24 Sermon Summary Key Points Content Summary ✦ In a situation where the disciples failed to heal the possessed boy and an argument ensued, Jesus rebuked the disciples for their lack of faith. ✦ He reminded them that faith is not a dimension of 'Can' that tests the Lord's power, but a dimension of 'Will' that fully trusts the Lord's will. Attitude of the Character ✦ The father of the boy initially tested the Lord with a doubtful attitude, but before Jesus' words, he humbly confessed his weakness, asking for help with his unbelief. ✦ Jesus, while rebuking those who doubted, did not give up, and declared that nothing is impossible for those who believe, leading them to the place of faith. Lessons for Us ✦ We must not doubt or test the Lord's power, but trust in God's good will, and move forward in prayer seeking His will first rather than just problem solving. ✦ We must honestly acknowledge our lack of faith, and live a life that humbly seeks help, anticipating God's power and grace beyond our limitations.
