The disciples had successfully cast out demons before, but this time, they simply could not do it. Familiarity and past experience alone were not enough to solve the problem. To the disciples who had failed, the Lord gently says. "This kind can come out by nothing but prayer." The true answer was not human power, but earnest prayer clinging tightly to God. Our life and our faith are very much like that. When you finally cross one mountain, an even bigger mountain appears before you. However, that mountain is not placed there to destroy us, but it is a place that God has allowed so that we can learn to handle it. God, rather than simply removing the problem from us, leads us deeper into a place of prayer. He makes us pause and pray right where our own strength ends, and within that sincere prayer, He gently makes us grow. Therefore, rather than merely dreaming of a life entirely without problems, let us draw much closer to God through our prayers. Let us live our lives with a mature faith that willingly kneels at every difficult hurdle and truly becomes more like our Lord.
